The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center is seeking a dynamic, results-driven physician leader to serve as  Chief, Emergency Department . This pivotal role provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and expert oversight of all specialties within Medicine Service—serving Veterans across Mississippi and parts of Louisiana and Alabama.

What You’ll Do:

• Executive Leadership: Direct and oversee all clinical and administrative aspects of a busy Emergency Department, ensuring exceptional care in alignment with the VHA’s mission, vision, and values.
• Continuous Coverage: Develop robust staffing models and provider schedules to guarantee continuous, 24/7 in-person physician presence. Prepare contingency plans to meet patient demand at all hours.
• Care Coordination: Facilitate seamless patient flow, collaborate with inpatient and support services, and eliminate barriers to care—ensuring life-saving transitions are efficient and veteran-centered.
• Quality & Safety Champion: Lead quality improvement initiatives, monitor performance metrics, and prioritize patient safety—ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission, VHA policy, and all regulatory requirements.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Foster strong partnerships with Nursing, Mental Health, Primary Care, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Laboratory, Pharmacy, and other services for comprehensive emergency care.
• Staff Leadership: Recruit, select, and mentor top-tier Emergency Medicine providers. Cultivate a high-performing, committed emergency care team.
• Preparedness & Resilience: Participate in emergency management and disaster preparedness planning, ensuring the department’s readiness for any challenge.
• Direct Supervision: Serve as the immediate supervisor for Emergency Department practitioners, supporting their growth and excellence in practice.

Who We’re Looking For:

• Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine or relevant specialty
• Proven experience in clinical leadership and emergency care
• Strong communicator, collaborator, and innovator
• Passionate about quality, safety, and serving Veterans

Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, with call coverage as needed
