Adjunct Lecturer of Graphic Design

KyCAD would like to announce a new position in the capacity of Adjunct Lecturer of Graphic Design, a six-week course taking place Fall 2026, Session 1 (August 24–October 2, M‑R – 9 am–12:30 pm) . This position is open to internal and external applications. Position Description Under the direction of the Chair of Graphic Design, the Adjunct Lecturer will instruct STU 494: Special Topics: The Political Poster . Compensation Salary: $4,000 per 3‑credit course Course Description STU 494: Special Topics: The Political Poster . 3 credits The Political Poster investigates how artists and designers deploy posters to construct, contest, and circulate political meaning within public space. Grounded in visual culture and communication theory, the course engages key concepts such as propaganda, counter‑publics, and visual rhetoric to analyze historical and contemporary movements. Students critically examine how typography, image, and reproduction technologies shape ideology, then develop their own poster projects addressing current political and social issues. Emphasizing ethics, audience, and context, the course positions the poster as an accessible yet powerful tool for intervention within contemporary political discourse. Responsibilities Develop and teach the course objectives. Submit syllabi and other instructional materials in a timely manner. Maintain records of student academic progress and attendance, evaluate level of achievement, and assign grades for the program. Complete an end‑of‑term art assessment form for the course, if required. Maintain regular communication with students and, when appropriate, use the Academic Alert notification process. Assess student work in a timely manner and submit course grades by the posted deadline. Incorporate inclusive and effective teaching methods/styles that support successful learning appropriate to a diverse student population. Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences. Model and cultivate open‑minded inquiry, an appreciation for diverse perspectives, and creative problem‑solving. Develop and maintain healthy and positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders. Embrace and enhance the college's culture to help ensure continued engagement, motivation, and institutional success. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Master of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate course credit hours in Graphic Design or recognized professional accomplishments in a related field. Preferred teaching experience: 3 years. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Evidence of teaching ability, curricular development, and instructional design. Sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse student populations.
