Senior Fiber Project Manager (FTTH Deployment)

Location: Remote / Hybrid (Must reside within a 1.5-hour radius of regional offices in Illinois, Indiana, or Michigan for minimal office/municipal travel)

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire (6-Month Performance Evaluation for Permanent Conversion)

On behalf of our client, a rapidly growing regional broadband and fiber infrastructure provider, we are seeking an execution-focused Senior Fiber Project Manager. This high-impact role takes full ownership of the planning, design, zoning, permitting, construction, and closeout of large-scale Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network builds.

Operating primarily from a home office with occasional local travel for municipal meetings or regional team sessions, you will serve as the single point of contact for multi-workstream deployment projects. Our client is looking for a structured, proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can confidently report project status, capital expenditures, and risk mitigation strategies to the Executive Leadership Team. Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End FTTH Program Ownership: Actively manage all project-level activities across internal functional teams and external general contractors. Drive completion of fiber network design, zoning, municipal permitting, civil construction, system acceptance, NOC integration, and final closeout packages.
• Executive & Stakeholder Reporting: Deliver comprehensive weekly reports to the Executive Leadership Team regarding project timelines, capital expenditure forecasting, monthly/quarterly progress milestones, and risk assessments.
• Financial & PO Management: Partner with OSP infrastructure and Accounting teams to establish subcontractor project scopes, manage Purchase Orders (POs), review progress milestones, and approve contractor progress payments against contract terms.
• Risk Management & Mitigation: Proactively identify potential constructability, regulatory, or logistical bottlenecks. Develop and execute mitigation strategies to preserve project budgets and completion schedules, escalating critical risks with actionable recommendations.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the single point of contact across internal business units—collaborating with Business Development on municipal relations, Sales & Marketing on service availability timelines, and OSP Construction on field execution.
• Process Improvement & Mentorship: Continuously evaluate deployment workflows to shorten completion cycles, improve resource efficiency, and reduce unit costs per route mile. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior project management staff.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure company operations and subcontractor activities strictly adhere to federal, state, local municipal, and industry safety standards and specifications.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Core Experience: 5+ years of dedicated project management experience within the telecommunications or fiber optic infrastructure industry, with a strong focus on Outside Plant (OSP) and FTTH deployments.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent professional work experience is required.
• Geographic Requirement: Must reside within a 1.5-hour driving radius of regional office locations across Illinois, Indiana, or Michigan to support occasional in-person meetings or municipal presentations.
• Technical & Industry Literacy: Thorough understanding of inside and outside plant (ISP/OSP) fiber optic network architectures, civil constructability practices, right-of-way permitting, and utility workflows.
• Software Competency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, and standard project management software platforms.
• Communication & Leadership: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the confidence to present project forecasts and strategic recommendations to executive leadership, local government bodies, and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Project Management Certifications (e.g., PMP, PgMP, CAPM ) or comparable credentials are highly desirable.
