Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Division Operations Officer)

Summary ATF is a law enforcement agency in the U.S. Department of Justice that protects our communities from violent criminals, illegal firearms trafficking, improper explosives use, arson, terrorism, and diversion of alcohol/tobacco products. We partner with communities, industries, law enforcement, and public safety agencies to safeguard the public through information sharing, training, research, and technology. Duties / Responsibilities Plan, direct, and monitor the operations of the division office, managing staff involved in planning, management, and evaluation of division activities. Develop and evaluate procedures or policies, formulate overall plans for special programs, and direct their implementation. Prepare and submit reports on the effectiveness of existing policies, programs, and procedures; keep managers apprised of results of projects, studies, and surveys. Review and evaluate projects and comprehensive reports submitted by subordinate personnel. Represent the division in developing formal and informal agreements with other agencies concerning joint operations, reporting procedures, and sharing of resources. Plan and execute a program of division operational reviews, conducting visits to offices to ensure procedures and organizational structure align with established policies. Requirements U.S. Citizen or National. Selective Service registration required for eligible males. One–year probationary period may be required. Current permanent DOJ employee with competitive status or CTAP/RPL‑eligible candidate. Successful background investigation. Meet all applicable time‑in‑grade requirements by closing date. Financial disclosure may be required upon selection. Qualifications For GS‑14, at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑13. Experience initiating, planning, and directing studies, surveys, operational reviews, or projects to evaluate and improve division effectiveness. Experience developing and evaluating procedures or policies, determining needs, and formulating plans for special programs and directing implementation. Experience providing law‑enforcement expertise and policy advice to senior division and headquarters officials. Experience providing leadership to work groups, teams, or special projects. Experience reviewing and evaluating reports; recommending actions. CTAP eligibility provides selection priority; applicants must provide written notification and meet score requirements. Additional Information New employees must sign ATF’s mobility agreement. This position is a non‑bargaining unit.
