Medical Assistant - Pain Management

Job Overview The Summit Health Medical Assistant (MA) is a multi-skilled health professional who works collaboratively on a dynamic multidisciplinary team to provide a wide range of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places an emphasis on quality of care and customer service. Under the direction of the Primary Care Provider, Clinical Practice Manager and Office Supervisor, the MA participates in team‑based care by assisting with structuring the patient flow, providing direct and indirect patient care, assisting with procedures and clerical duties. The Medical Assistant will be motivated, energetic, and an empathetic communicator who is passionate about delivering the highest quality of care. Essential Job Functions Prepares the examination room Escorts patient into the room Cleans examination room when exam is complete Maintains efficient patient flow Monitors providers schedule for additions/cancellations Properly utilizes Athena to alert provider when patient ready Ensures proper preparation for patient visit Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visit Chart prep: prepare patient visit in advance Perform patient outreach to obtain vaccine records and imaging results Queue up orders as appropriate for visit Review outstanding orders/referrals Communicates & provides care consistent with age, cultural, spiritual and developmental needs of the patient Answers the telephone in an appropriate manner; directs calls and/or takes accurate messages Perform patient check‑in/check‑out when applicable Schedule appointments accurately and appropriately according to departmental guidelines Consistently and accurately stocks examination rooms with all necessary supplies Assist in ordering and maintaining all supplies as assigned Reconcile encounters daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines Effectively communicate problems, concerns, or issues to supervisor and/or manager appropriately and promptly Understand and perform within scope of practice Obtain vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required; document appropriately in EHR Review and update medication list and accurately document known allergies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Demonstrate an understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures; accurately document allergies, family, medical, social history Perform medication reconciliation Perform preventative screenings (PHQ‑2/9, STEADI Falls Risk, CAGE screenings) Employ appropriate and timely use of tasking in EHR Maintain provider/staff clinical inbox Appropriately enter orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR Provide referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR Adhere to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste Maintain proficiency with department‑specific equipment; troubleshoot and report malfunctions promptly Facilitate transition of care to UCC/Hospital Demonstrate flexibility with various work schedules and office locations Administer approved vaccinations Perform point‑of‑care testing including but not limited to: urine dipsticks/pregnancy, hemocue, nasal swabs for flu/covid, throat cultures Perform phlebotomy as applicable All other duties as assigned Perform patient outreach: AWV’s, Gardasil/Pneumonia, Chronic Care Visits Actively participate in pilot programs Recognize and perform duties that need to be performed although not directly assigned Other duties as assigned Physical Job Requirements Physical mobility, including movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account Physical agility, ability to maneuver body while in place Dexterity of hands and fingers Endurance, such as continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking Environmental Risks Allergens: dust, mold and/or pollen Combative patients/visitors Education, certification, computer and training requirements as applicable Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements High School Graduate/GED or equivalent Associate Degree preferred 0‑1 year related work experience required 2‑4 years related work experience preferred Medical Assistant certification required Basic Life Support (BLS) required or within 30 days of hire Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner required Basic proficiency in computer use required Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed required Travel to satellite locations as needed required Pay Range $22.02 – $27.07 hourly Benefits Participation in VillageMD’s benefit platform includes Medical, Dental, Life, Disability, Vision, FSA coverages and a 401(k) savings plan.
