Find the Solution Own the results Build lasting relationships Make it fun Role Description The Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting, developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Supervises staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year end tax preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. This role interacts regularly with the Executive Leadership Team and owners which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. The right candidate will be able to tackle the job from day one, but be poised to grow with the company for years to come. This role will work from our Plano office and remotely. Responsibilities Include Executes and/or leads team to execute accounting functions, including establishing policies, procedures and financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP). Establishes & maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and GL structure. Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close. Ensures the timely reporting of all monthly financial information. Establishes and maintains project accounts and ensures accurate recording of project expenses and revenues. Manages daily banking requirements and cash flow analysis. Ensures the accurate and timely processing of transactions within accounting team. Ensures the monthly, quarterly and annual compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner. Develops and supports strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting activities. Collaborates with the other departments to support overall department goals and objectives. Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Advies staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions. Responds to inquiries from managers and the executive leadership team regarding financial results and special reporting requests. Supervises the accounting group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met. Manages the payroll process in coordination with a secondary administrator for backup and review purposes. Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the company. Provides training to new and existing staff as needed. Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff. Leads and/or performs ad hoc analysis on special projects and/or provides support to such projects. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Strong accounting and finance skills, including general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow analysis. Experience with financial controls, compliance, and audit preparation, ideally within a services or events-based organization. Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, as well as advanced skills in Excel and other financial analysis tools. QuickBooks experience is a big plus. Demonstrated ability to interpret financial data, provide insights, and support strategic decision-making for leadership. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines. Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus. Ten plus years' experience in industry accounting and financial analysis required and five plus years prior experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role in finance.
