FIRE CAPTAIN CORRECTION INSTITUTION

Position Overview Position Title: Fire Captain, Correction Institution Location: Kern County – North Kern State Prison (P.O. Box 5007, Delano, CA 93216-5007) Salary: $6,110.00 – $9,203.00 per month (minimum salary for new‑to‑state candidates applies) Term: Limited 12‑month assignment (may extend to 24 months or become permanent) Responsibilities Operate and maintain fire department equipment, recharge fire extinguishers, and maintain inspection logs. Perform search and rescue operations, conduct fire drills, investigate fires, and report safety violations. Train and supervise incarcerated persons in fire prevention, suppression, and general housekeeping. Educate staff in fire life safety and conduct required training sessions. Write incident reports, recommend corrective actions, and maintain firefighter records. Attend staff meetings and trainings as needed; perform other related duties. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications specified in the Classification Specification for Fire Captain, Correction Institution. Desirable Qualifications Experience in fostering an inclusive workplace that empowers a diverse workforce. Ability to train and supervise a varied personnel group.
