Turnaround Specialist II (Temporary Position)

Job Summary

This is a temporary position responsible for supporting all phases of turnaround planning and execution activities within an assigned project area. The Turnaround Specialist II reports directly to the Lead Turnaround Specialist and is accountable for coordinating, planning, monitoring, and reporting turnaround activities throughout the project lifecycle. This role serves as both a planner and field coordinator, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.

Shift Requirements
• Experience supporting refinery, petrochemical, midstream, terminal, or industrial turnarounds required
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, overtime, and call-outs as needed
• Must be available for the duration of the turnaround assignment

Key Responsibilities

Planning Phase
• Walk down project scope and verify work requirements in the field
• Photograph equipment and work locations as required
• Develop detailed job steps within the planning system
• Verify inspection requirements, labor resources, materials, durations, and equipment specifications
• Validate valve and piping specifications
• Compare field conditions against drawings and identify discrepancies
• Update and annotate plans, drawings, and documentation
• Enter and maintain job information within IPS
• Assist schedulers with job sequencing and schedule logic development
• Verify Bills of Material (BoMs) contain all required materials for execution
• Coordinate with scheduling, materials management, and document control teams

Execution Phase
• Support contractor onboarding and mobilization activities
• Serve as Area Coordinator during turnaround execution
• Monitor contractor performance, productivity, progress, and safety compliance
• Coordinate daily work activities through contractor supervision
• Identify and eliminate barriers that may impact schedule performance
• Work closely with scheduling personnel to monitor work progress
• Verify contractor staffing levels are appropriate for assigned work fronts
• Coordinate with inspection personnel regarding additional or discovery work
• Complete AWRs, delay reports, and other required documentation
• Participate in rollover meetings and provide accurate status updates on assigned work

Ongoing Responsibilities
• Maintain a safe and compliant work environment
• Promote continuous improvement of turnaround planning and execution practices
• Assist turnaround leadership with special projects and additional assignments
• Support maintenance activities as required
• Support potential capital project assignments as needed
• Ensure project status is accurately reflected throughout all reporting cycles

Required Qualifications
• Experience supporting industrial turnarounds, shutdowns, outages, or maintenance projects
• Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, work procedures, blueprints, P&IDs, work permits, and technical manuals
• Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial equipment and systems
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and planning/scheduling software
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
• Ability to work effectively with contractors, operations, maintenance, engineering, and inspection teams

Physical Requirements
• Work both indoors and outdoors around industrial facilities and electrical equipment
• Work in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes
• Lift up to 50 pounds and manually transport loads up to 75 pounds
• Apply up to 100 foot-pounds of torque
• Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and work at elevated heights
• Ability to stand, sit, or work in confined positions for extended periods
• Must be capable of visually inspecting work and responding to alarms and safety signals
• Must wear required PPE, including respiratory protection and emergency breathing apparatus
• Must be able to enter and exit vehicles frequently and travel over rough terrain

Additional Requirements
• Ability to work overtime and respond to call-outs as required
• Ability to travel domestically
• Must live within or relocate to within one hour of the assigned reporting location

Preferred Qualifications
• Previous turnaround planning or coordination experience
• Experience with IPS or similar turnaround planning software
• Experience in refining, petrochemical, terminal, pipeline, natural gas, or heavy industrial operations
