Title Graduate Assistant - English Programs Position Overview The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer. Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Graduate English Chair, Dr. Gregory Chaplin, the GA will support key initiatives for the English Graduate Program through three main sets of duties: The GA will help plan, organize, and run the Seventh Annual Masters in English Regional Conference (MERC). This includes preparing conference materials, setting deadlines, reviewing abstracts, organizing panels, and coordinating with faculty supervisions. The GA will work alongside a partner Graduate Assistant from Salem State University. The GA will assist with the Program Review of the English Graduate Program. Responsibilities include preparing and administering surveys to current students and alumni, organizing focus groups, and assembling support materials. The GA will perform tasks focused on improving program‑wide communication and outreach, such as building and administering the new Graduate English Blackboard site and visiting select undergraduate classes to recruit students for the 4+1 and MA programs. Outcomes By completing these duties, the GA will gain experience in academic conference organization, acquisition of academic and educational software skills (WordPress, Blackboard, Google Forms, PowerPoint, etc.), and advanced presentation and public‑speaking abilities. Preferred Qualifications Basic proficiency with academic software such as WordPress, Blackboard, Google Forms, and PowerPoint. Strong presentation and public‑speaking skills.
