Position Summary: The Senior Communications Manager is a strategic thinker and agile communicator, energized by the unexpected and passion to address critical conservation goals. The Senior Communications Manager will be vital in raising awareness of and building a constituency for priorities across Audubon's Delta region (Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana). The Senior Communications Manager will be lead communications efforts, driving strategy, generating ideas, and proposing new ways to reach new and existing audiences. This position will lead the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy, working with staff and partners in the region and across the organization. The Senior Communications Manager will engage in community, conservation, and policy communications and work with various teams across the organization. This is one of the most dynamic roles in the region, helping develop and shape conversations. The Senior Manager coaches program staff to develop and deliver quality materials and generate social and digital media to support strategies to publicize community, policy and conservation goals. They will report to the Vice President, Delta. This position is classified as hybrid preferred, but we will also consider remote candidates within the Delta region, in accordance with Audubon's "Where We Work" Policy. Hybrid employees are expected to work in an Audubon office every Monday and Tuesday and an additional two days each month of the employee's choosing. Hybrid candidates should be located within commuting distance of one of Audubon's offices, which includes New Orleans. - Develop and leverage internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of community, conservation and policy goals by leading key outreach and informational initiatives.
- Generate and execute ideas for improving engagement, increasing membership, converting members to email lists and advocates, etc., and working with engagement staff on using paid advertising and other tools, and potentially additional channels, for increased communication and outreach.
- Develop advocacy-driven communication campaigns with measurable goals and outcomes for Audubon Delta priorities, deliverables, and objectives.
- Working with community and policy colleagues, developing messaging frameworks, reports, fact sheets, GIS StoryMaps, and talking points for crucial policy initiatives and strategic priorities.
- Draw upon various communication tools to produce content, including designing and producing written, audio, visual, and multimedia content and stories.
- Lead or support the development of press releases, editorials, media pitches, Action Alerts, and talking points that publicize and support Audubon Delta's mission and goals.
- Create PowerPoint presentations.
- Work with Delta staff to manage the organization's website, social media strategy and implementation, and content.
- Track communications goals and outcomes and prepare summaries of communications activities for grant reports.
- Supervise communications interns.
- Maintains and fosters culture of safety.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a closely related field required.
- Minimum of 7 years of field experience in communications, marketing, policy, or government relations.
- Experience developing and implementing communication plans and strategies.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with demonstrated experience writing articles for newsletters, marketing literature, social media, and public relations materials. Ability to write well, quickly, and under pressure.
- Digital communications experience - including social media engagement and website updating.
- Experience pitching and developing strong relationships with traditional and new media, using online communications tools to enhance and amplify an organization's core messages.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects on time and within budget.
- Exceptional storytelling and creative thinking,
- Ability at making complex subjects easily understood through words and visuals.to various audiences.
- A self-starter with a proactive approach to assignments, one with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, solve problems with limited supervision, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- A flexible approach to work, willing to travel as needed and participate in programs/events occurring after typical business hours (most programs/events would be planned in advance and with notice).
