Experienced Project Architect/Draftsperson

Job Duties

We are a Lake Minnetonka-area architectural firm specializing in high-end, custom, single family residential homes and high-end multi-family condominiums. Projects also include light commercial & retail facilities. We are seeking an experienced project architect/draftsperson with project management skills to fill an available position.

Total compensation will be commensurate with overall skill set.

Project duties may include (but are not limited to):

Draft preliminary designs, plans & 3D models utilizing preliminary concept sketches; and proceed through design development, bidding stages, permitting, and construction documentation.

Develop structural concepts & potential layouts in the planning stage and work closely with structural & civil engineers and surveyors to develop permit & construction documentation.

Understanding of structural & building construction & technology.

Understanding of international & state building codes.

Utilization of internet to identify & compile local information for project location.

Write and produce project outline specifications.

Utilize Revit software to lay out floor plans, interior & exterior elevations, building sections, basic lighting layouts, reflected ceiling plans, and construction details as well as extensive 3D modeling for initial client presentation meetings through complete design development.

Research & compile data required for architectural designs, including site visits, to obtain accurate, as-built, field measurements as required by the project.

Presentation & communication skills for client meetings, both in-person & via Zoom.

Work with all project team members, including contractor(s) & their subcontractors, associated project consultants, interior designers, building technology consultants, cabinet builders, etc.

Coordinate all team members efforts in an efficient & timely manner.

Ability to review & verify shop drawings & input from vendors and communicate those verifications with the builder & suppliers.

Ability to self-check dimensions, project materials, and contract documents for accuracy & completeness.

Analyze technical implications of the design concept, volume, and massing.

Prepare color renderings & 3D views of interior & exterior elevations for client presentation & review.

Work with city staff & code officials as required by project.

Prepare bidding documents & technical reports for specific projects under principal architect's supervision.

Prepare various form work & project property drawings as required for jurisdictional government entity requirements, including variance applications, wetland delineation, and city & watershed permits.

Research & analyze building codes, zoning ordinances, Homeowner’s Association by-laws, space & site requirements, technical documents, and reports to determine architectural design impact.

Work with principal architect to ensure project is in accordance with design intent.

Converse appropriately & effectively with all clients, coworkers, contractors, consultants, etc.

Provide ongoing project management & construction detailing as required.

Oversee & control project flow & timetables to meet expectations of the clients & project schedules.

Review project billing and maintain a complete history of the projects billable hours & time spent by use of Deltek software.

Previous residential experience and high proficiency in Autodesk Revit software is required, including the ability to set up & work in central files in multiple user situations.

Other software skills must include Bluebeam, Photoshop, Microsoft 365, and Zoom presentations.

Knowledge in Lumion & SketchUp are positives.
