Position Summary:

To provide direct instruction to students in Music in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools' high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools. Support team, school, and district initiatives, provide support to all students' academic, behavioral, social, emotional and mental health needs to ensure the development of the whole child while adhering to the district's curriculum.

Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in:

• Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General (All Levels).

Training and Experience:

• At least a Bachelor's Degree in the area of major study.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

I. Planning, Preparation, and Instruction:

• Plans a comprehensive program of study to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
• Develops schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests in accordance with established procedures and curriculum goals.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and learning activities to students.
• Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
• Plans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
• Instructs and monitors students in the effective use of learning materials and equipment.
• Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Provides a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.

II. Classroom Environment and Management:

• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing clear rules and procedures.
• Maintains discipline in accordance with school rules.
• Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
• Prepares the classroom for class activities.
• Actively works to create a classroom environment that is inclusive and equitable for all students.

III. Assessment and Reporting:

• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
• Assigns and grades class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
• Observes and evaluates students' performance and development.
• Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students and adjusts teaching strategies accordingly.
• Provides appropriate and timely feedback on student work.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
• Updates all necessary records accurately as required by laws and district policies.

IV. Communication and Collaboration:

• Consults with colleagues, students, and parents regularly.
• Communicates necessary information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
• Encourages parent and community involvement and promptly returns communications.
• Participates in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies governing student life and conduct.

V. Professional Responsibilities and Development:

• Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Participates in professional activities and staff development programs.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and/or school committees.
• Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
• Participates in extracurricular activities as directed.

Additional Essential Responsibilities for the Itinerant Band Teacher Position Only:

• Teaches and leads students in learning all beginning concert band instruments including percussion, woodwind, and brass instruments.
• Travels to several FPS elementary schools across the district to teach 5th grade band.
• Collaborates with school-based general music teachers to plan and execute winter and spring concerts.
• Maintains high expectations and establishes systems for instrument care and teaches students accordingly.
• Collaborates with FPA admin to organize instrument distribution, maintenance, and collection throughout the school year.

Physical Working Conditions:

• Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building.
• Must often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time.
• It is occasionally required to reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
