Details Surgical Acute unit in an acute care hospital setting, 63 beds (49 private, 9 observation) Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with potential increases to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights when needed Common diagnoses include post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN EPIC EMR used 12-hour night shifts (1930-0730) Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) Rotating holiday coverage every other holiday No call or standby requirement Floating required, with travelers floating first to units with similar experience level PCTs support with 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation Charge RNs pre-assigned each shift without taking a patient assignment, and House Supervisor coverage 24/7 Telemetry patients monitored via Phillips monitors with centralized monitor techs; bedside RNs do not read strips No RNs required to titrate drips except Heparin No ventilator management required; RT manages nebulizers while RNs manage inhalers and CPAP placement Requirements Active IL RN license required BLS certification (AHA) required Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required Post-op patient care experience required Strong critical thinking skills and good bedside manner required EPIC EMR experience preferred Additional Information Provide post-surgical and medical overflow patient care including wound care, IV therapy, pain management, and management of drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN Team-oriented environment with dedicated Charge RNs and 24/7 House Supervisor support Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour shift focused on EPIC and professional orientation with unit educator Scrubs of any color permitted Local candidates accepted with adjusted pay rate for those within 50 miles of the facility First-time travelers may be considered for this role American Traveler Job ID P-749747.
