Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Allen Park or Livonia, MI

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a broad role that requires working on a variety of engineering programs and projects. The role works on projects for large and small customers to meet the customers timelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working knowledge of the product development process

• Working in a fast paced engineering environment, self-starter/proactive, ability to multi-task

• Working experience of 3D design (CAD), packaging, validation and release of mechanical components and systems

• Experience performing digital packaging assessments and compatibility checks.

• Functional proficiency with CAD packages like SolidWorks, Siemens NX, CATIA, or similar

• Working knowledge of DFA (Design for Assembly), DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFS (Design for Serviceability)

• Working knowledge of DFMEAs, failure root cause analysis, 8Ds and development and execution of DVPs

• Projects range from EV quadricycle design & development, root cause analysis for durability testing, test support, concept development for new vehicle platforms

• Working experience in test procedures development, creation and execution of test plans, external test house coordination

• Prototype vehicle build coordination and management of test and evaluation vehicles

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical data to various audiences

• Experience overseeing technical deliverables to ensure customer requirements and quality standards are met

• Ability to mentor others on best practices of design and engineering principles

• Experience working in a hands-on/cross functional environment (Ex. Formula SAE, SAE Baja etc.)

• Working experience with test data collection and data post processing to create meaningful test reports and conclusions

• Candidate may have personal projects that are hands-on(ex. project car, 3D printing, robotics etc.)

• Able to quickly and effectively perform in a team environment

• Working experience in BOMs

• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.

• Minimum of 4 years of engineering work experience.

• Functional proficiency to 3D model and draft in SolidWorks.

• Superb verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical data to various audiences and work in a team environment.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

• Working Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing).

• Working Knowledge of Simulation and Finite Element Analysis in SolidWorks or other computer applications.

Preferred Skills:

• Capable of planning, estimating, scheduling, and coordinating technical aspects of projects.

• Working Knowledge, understanding and application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

• Knowledge in the development and execution of Design Validation Plans (DVPs) to demonstrate functionality and mitigate risk of premature failure.

• Ability to mentor others on best practices of design and engineering principles.

• Manufacturing experience including machining, metal forming, code welding and composites.

• Experience in interpretation and application of ASTM-F24 standards.

• Experience overseeing technical deliverables to ensure customer requirements and quality standards are met.

• Hands-on troubleshooting and root cause problem solving experience.

• Experience in the hands-on execution in the complete product development cycle, from concept

design through production release and acceptance testing.
