Description

We are seeking an experienced surgical professional to work under the supervision of a surgeon, assisting in both invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures. The primary focus will be on ensuring a safe and effective operating room environment, preparing necessary supplies and equipment, and maximizing patient safety throughout the surgical process.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate the safe conduct of surgical procedures, maintaining the highest standard of patient safety.
• Ensure the availability and preparation of operating room (OR) supplies and equipment.
• Verify medical implants and follow sterilization protocols, including inspection of package integrity and verification of chemical indicators.
• Assist with patient positioning and preparation according to departmental and hospital standards.
• Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator and conduct additional counts as needed.
• Drap the patient and establish a sterile field, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
• Participate in the surgical site and patient verification during the time-out procedure.
• Maintain the sterile field and assist the surgeon by anticipating their needs during operations.
• Handle and label medications and solutions under supervision, adhering to medication management protocols.
• Demonstrate competence in the preparation and care of specimens, ensuring accurate handling.
• Assist in lifting, turning, and positioning patients, utilizing proper body mechanics.
• Support maintaining a clean and safe OR environment, including post-procedural cleaning and restocking supplies.
• Follow Point-of-Use cleaning protocols and assist in the decontamination of instruments.
• Utilize standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when handling hazardous substances.
• Perform all additional duties as assigned.

Unit Description

This position is located in an outpatient surgery center with 18 beds for pre-operative recovery and 4 operating rooms, specializing in eye and orthopedic surgeries. The center operates as a small team, promoting strong teamwork and a collaborative environment. The surgery center performs between 5 to 25 surgeries each day, depending on the day of the week. Experience in orthopedic and eye surgeries is required.

Credentials and Qualifications

• Certification from an accredited body (NBSTSA) is required.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and practices.
• Ability to work as part of a small team and communicate effectively with colleagues.
