Job Title: Occupational Therapist Profession: Therapy Specialty: Occupational Therapy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 1 year preferred License: Current state license required Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: - Comprehensive knowledge of patient assessments and evaluations - Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - Decision-making and time management abilities Description: Assesses and treats the impact of illness, injury, developmental, or psychological impairments on the performance areas of Activities of Daily Living. These activities include range of motion, grooming, hygiene, eating, dressing, toileting, driving, cooking, and working. Responsible for assisting patients in regaining, developing, and learning skills to achieve optimal independence. Aims to reduce joint strain, prevent further joint damage, and conserve energy. Develops, implements, and monitors the plan of care for each individual served. Performs and directs the administration of all occupational therapy modalities and collaborates throughout the process with the patient, their family, and the interdisciplinary team. Verifies physician orders prior to evaluation. Evaluates each patient before administering treatments, incorporating psychological and physical issues. Conducts thorough reviews of the patient's chart and history, which may include objective measurements relevant to the patient's diagnosis and condition. Completes evaluations and establishes goals and plan of care in collaboration with the patient, their family, and other healthcare workers as appropriate. Administers and directs treatments and modalities to assist patients in achieving maximum rehabilitation potential through the use of ADL activities, splinting, ROM, endurance building, strengthening exercises, cognitive retraining, coordination, and dexterity training. Maintains knowledge of indications and contraindications for various treatments. Calls the physician if treatments ordered are not indicated. Acquires appropriate equipment, checks equipment for safety, and communicates evaluation, treatment procedures, and the use of specific equipment to patients and families. Applies or supervises appropriate treatments or modalities such as therapeutic exercises, hot moist packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin, soft tissue mobilization, balance training, and functional mobility training. Frequently checks with patients for tolerance of the modalities given. Maintains contact with the referring physician regarding patient progress. Observes treatment effects and recommends changes to the physician if indicated.
