The Opportunity A prestigious Brooklyn‑based academic institution is seeking an Associate Director of Facilities Operations . This is a critical leadership role for a proactive professional who excels at bridging the gap between institutional stakeholders and technical service providers. We are looking for an operational leader who is ready to "own" the campus environment—someone with a strong technical foundation who can hold engineers accountable while maintaining high standards for student and faculty spaces. The Role & Team Structure You will serve as the operational heartbeat of the campus, supervising one Facilities Coordinator and working in close tandem with the Facilities Project Manager and Event Services Manager. Operational Leadership: Oversee building performance, custodial services, and infrastructure reliability (HVAC/Electrical). Stakeholder & Vendor Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for campus leadership and landlords. Manage the full vendor lifecycle, from proposals and POs to expense tracking. Quality & Compliance: Conduct regular building assessments and maintain strict adherence to NYC building codes and safety protocols. Technical Supervision: Mentor internal staff while holding third‑party contractors and engineers to rigorous service delivery standards. Requirements Experience: 7+ years in facilities management with a working knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, and construction project management. Industry Focus: 3+ years in a higher education or academic setting is strongly preferred. Leadership: Proven ability to manage direct reports and negotiate effectively with landlords and vendors. Communication: Ability to articulate technical challenges and operational updates clearly to non‑technical leadership.
