This is an exciting opportunity to join Volusia County Podiatry as a Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant. The Medical Scribe / Medical Assistant supports the Podiatrist and clinical team by accurately documenting patient encounters and assisting with efficient patient care. This position combines real-time clinical documentation with basic clinical support for patient care, while adhering to all ethical standards governing the practice of Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant. The ideal candidate must be organized, dependable, and efficient with electronic health record documentation while adhering to HIPAA guidelines to protect patient privacy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accurately transcribe the physician -patient interactions, history, examinations, assessments, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up instructions in the electronic health record under the direction of the provider

Capture and document each patient encounter in real time in the EHR system.

Obtain and document vital signs, wound measurements, or other pertinent information necessary to complete the visit

Prepare charts before visits by reviewing relevant history, reason for visits, medications, allergies, imaging, laboratory results when applicable,  prior treatment plans, and  review of systems

Room patients; verify demographics, medications, allergies, chief complaint, and relevant medical history; and obtain and record vital signs as assigned

Assist the provider during examinations and procedures, including wound care, nail and callus care, diabetic foot evaluations, injections, casting, and minor surgical procedures, within training and scope.

Enter provider-directed orders, prescriptions, referrals, and follow-up information for provider review and approval

Provide provider-approved patient instructions regarding wound care, footwear, braces, medications, testing, and follow-up appointments etc

Clean and disinfect examination rooms and equipment; follow infection-control, sterilization, sharps, and biohazard protocols

Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, medical records, prior authorizations, and patient communications as assigned with supportive documentation

Respond professionally to patient questions and route clinical concerns to the provider or licensed clinical staff

Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, Volusia County Podiatry policies, and all applicable federal and state requirements

Administer Basic First Aid 

Perform  simple aseptic technique  in accordance with the scope of practice for a  Medical Assistant

Perform other duties as assigned by provider/ Practice Manage

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS(SKILLS AND ABILITIES);

·       Ability to demonstrate professionalism in a fast-paced environment

·       Experience with Electronic Health Records

·       Previous experience of at least 2 years in a medical office setting

·       Must possess strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and clerical skills

·        BLS CPR recommended

·       Must have reliable transportation and a valid Florida Driver’s License

·       Proficiency in operating basic office equipment (i.e. – computer skills, telephone, facsimile, copy machines, etc.)

·       Basic knowledge of medical terminology, with the ability to transcribe physician–patient interactions accordingly

Must have a basic knowledge of infection control precautions to include the use of  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), knowledge of blood-borne precautions, COVID-19 precautions, as well as precautions to reduce needle sticks

High School Diploma/GED

Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

The ability to recall instructions provided by provider

Bilingual a plus
