Speech and Language Pathologist

Examines, tests, diagnoses and administers remedial treatments for patients with speech and hearing disorders. Responsibilities Evaluates patients utilizing a wide variety of therapeutic techniques to assist patients with the rehabilitation of speech, language, hearing, and oral motor disorders. Performs evaluations with special attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation and auditory skills. Records speech samples and conducts phonetic analyses of speech ability. Documents test results an individualized treatment and activities which will enhance the patient's usage of language and ability to communicate. Confers with associates and institutes treatment utilizing corrective exercises and specialized equipment. Maintains active support and communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs and other issues related to the therapeutic process. Provides patient and parent/caregiver education and training for home exercise programs. Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to assess and develop comprehensive speech programs. Familiarity with communication disorders. Ability to build rapport with patients. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Positive and patient demeanor. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. EDUCATION: Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university program. EXPERIENCE: Professional experience in the areas of voice and neurologically involved patients required, preferably in a hospital setting. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Certificate of Clinical Competence (Clinical Fellowship Year ' CFY) in Speech-Language Pathology from AHSA and current License to Practice Speech Language Pathology in the state of Texas. Required Skills Professional experience in the areas of voice and neurologically involved patients required, preferably in a hospital setting.
