LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (Ambulatory Care: Dominos Farm Allergy Clinic)

Job Description

Provides direct and individualized nursing care to both adult and pediatric patients under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. Nursing care according to established institutional and unit policies. Observe patient status, report and document changes and nursing care given. Provide information to help determine appropriate nursing care and discharge planning for assigned patients. Administer and document allergy immunotherapy and medications according to established standards. Initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations. Instruct patients and families according to a teaching plan established by a Registered Nurse. Participate in unit staff meetings for problem-solving, planning and improvement of patient care. Assist in research projects and quality assurance activities. Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability and flexibility and consistently share information and resources with others. Excellent attendance and punctuality. Effective time management skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (e.g. ability to provide and receive constructive feedback, constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues). May be required to work overtime. Strong attention to detail. Work well with minimal supervision. Willingness to work with children and adults. Able to work in a fast-paced customer friendly environment. Basic clerical tasks that require proper telephone technique, basic typing, computer and data entry.

Assist with patient flow, take vitals, assist with procedures, prepare specimens, allergy skin testing, pulmonary function tests, injections, food and medication challenges. Assist with prescription refills, telephone management, and patient follow up for test results. Proficient in computer keyboarding skills. Ability to communicate effectively in ways that enhance productivity and build respectful relationships. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved school for practical nursing.
• Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan.
• Successful completion of a pharmacology course in an accredited program.
• Must have at least two (2) years out of the last five (5) years of LPN experience.
• Proficiency with inbasket management and documentation of patient encounters in electronic health records, e.g., Epic, as evidenced by interviews, references, and/or performance evaluations in the past 2 years out of 5 years of LPN experience.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by interviews, performance evaluations, and/or references in the past 2 out of 5 years of LPN experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Allergy experience in an ambulatory care clinic in the past 5 years.

Work Schedule

• Hours per week ? 40 in clinic.
• Shifts/Days/Hours? Monday through Friday, day shift, 8 hours, variable hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
• Location ? Michigan Medicine Dominos Farms Allergy Clinic with potential to work at other Allergy locations.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
