Breede Valley Municipality 2026/08/13 Worcester Job Reference Number: PWIS/POS01/0826 Department: Parks & Open Spaces Business Unit Industry: Government Job Type: Permanent Positions Available: 1 Salary: R440 620,85 - R571 935,54 (EXTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT) DIRECTORATE: PUBLIC WORKS & INTEGRATED SERVICES DIVISION: PUBLIC WORKS SECTION: PARKS & OPEN SPACES LOCATION: WORCESTER SUPERINTENDENT: PARKS & OPEN SPACES (PERMANENT) BASIC SALARY: R 440 620.85 – R 571 935.54 per annum [T12] TOTAL COST TO COUNCIL: R 635 281 – R 805 554 per annum (Inclusive of Municipal benefits: Group Life Scheme, Pension Fund etc.) Job Description Job Purpose: Co-ordinates and manages the operations of the section, inclusive of monitoring and implementing procedures, establishing resource requirements, planning and scheduling maintenance programmes and evaluating outcomes, monitoring and attending to deviations in productivity and performance and attending to specific administrative and information reporting requirements and processes. Duties Providing input to the immediate superior on operational needs for consideration during the preparation of the annual budget. Preparing resource allocation schedules (cost, material and time spread) and priority programmes for execution, attending and participating in departmental meetings and/or conducting briefing sessions with supervisory personnel and/or contractors, explaining requirements and outcomes. Assessing the adequacy of procedures, systems and controls associated with vehicle, plant, equipment and material availability and utilization. Inspecting vehicles, tools, plant, facilities and surroundings, managing assets through laid down planned maintenance and control systems, and arranging for defects and/or maintenance requirements to be attended to. Monitors and evaluates progress with regards to repair, installation and maintenance work (irrigation systems, parks, trees, opens spaces, etc.) by: Communicating, liaising and providing information to residents/general public on activities and work sequences associated with parks and cemeteries maintenance programmes. Communicating with service providers/contractors and technical departmental personnel. Participating in project handover inspections and verifying scope of contract against actual outcomes prior to confirming approval/ acceptance. Communicating to the immediate superior through the verbal and written mediums statutory and procedural requirements for adoption and compliance. Inspecting work sites and/or conducting observations of work sequences and determining extent of awareness and/or the need for corrective/remedial measures. Monitoring/reviewing capital and operating expenditure of the Section and implementing various checks and balances with a view to identifying, investigating and notifying the immediate superior/line manager of variances and outcomes. Leading and managing staff in the Section to ensure that they meet their career objectives and the Directorate’s objectives in line with Council’s requirements and resource constraints. Coordinating processes and practices associated with the verification of invoices for completed works submitted by service providers. Collating information from field reports, inspections and contractual documentation for inclusion into management reports. Ensure all staff adhere to standard operating procedures and instructions when utilizing equipment.
