Finance Director

Location: Summit County, CO. Monday through Thursday required in person, in office

Pay Range: $105,000 to $120,000

Job summary:

The Finance Director reports directly to the Executive Director and serves as FIRC’s senior financial leader, responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and long-term financial strategy. This role is the primary financial partner to the Executive Director, the Director team, and the Finance Committee on the Board, translating financial data into clear guidance for organizational decisions.

This position is responsible for ensuring that FIRC manages resources most beneficially and helps maximize funding, while aligning with the Organization’s strategic goals, mission, vision, and values.

The person we are looking for will:

Primary responsibilities:

• Lead annual budget development and present it for approval by the Board of Directors.
• Own monthly and forecast-level financial reporting for the Executive Director, Director team, Finance Committee, and Board, including variance analysis and clear, plain language explanations of financial performance.
• Prepare month-end financials and run monthly Finance Committee meetings, including preparing the agenda, owning the invite, taking notes, maintaining records for the audit, and presenting to the Board.
• Partner with the Director team to implement and track Strategic Plan KPIs.
• Lead financial strategy and modeling for grant budgets, capital campaigns, and ongoing accounting for all FIRC facilities and related building costs.
• Develop and implement financial policies and procedures.
• Ensure FIRC’s overall financial health is stable and in good standing and alert the ED of any foreseeable concerns that may arise or be prevented.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Lead the annual audit process by providing documentation and support to external auditors.
• Supervise accounting staff to ensure smooth day-to-day transactions, and provide leadership support including but not limited to training, timecards, scheduling, performance, deliverables, etc.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Monthly reconciliation for bank and investment accounts.
• Backup Accountant when needed for all accounting activities, including check processing, vendor inquiries, credit card processing, and reconciliations.
• Support Federal, State, and foundation grants’ lifecycles, including but not limited to budget preparation for submission, tracking of labor costs and expenses, grant invoicing, and grant audits.
• Prepare and present budgets at department level, mentoring non-financial staff on financial concepts.
• If needed, occasionally serve as backup for HR with the payroll approval process.
• Provide universal support for additional tasks as assigned to advance FIRC’s mission.

Requirements of the position include:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field
• 10+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or financial planning, ideally including ownership of a large, multi-department budget
• Demonstrated experience building financial models, forecasts, and reporting tools used directly by executive leadership
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Proven ability to translate financial data for non-finance audiences, including executives, Board members, and program staff
• Willingness and ability to build hands-on general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and reconciliation skills on the job
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with enterprise financial systems and willingness to learn FIRC’s systems (Financial Edge, Razor’s Edge)
• Ability to successfully manage a workload that balances long term financial strategy with the daily, hands-on demands of a lean nonprofit finance department
• Excellent people skills with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
• Reliable transportation year-round to navigate Summit County to attend job-related meetings and events

Preferred qualifications and experience:

• Prior supervisory or people management experience
• MBA or CPA
• Proficiency in Spanish
• Experience using Blackbaud Financial Edge and Razor’s Edge
