Patients will range from infants to adolescents, ages 0-20, pre and post-operative. Nurses will care for pediatric surgical patients, including those undergoing appendectomies, cholecystectomies, chest tube placement, trauma care, orthopedic repairs, cleft lip/palate repairs, urological procedures, and ENT surgeries. Daily patient census is approximately 14. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Weekend shifts will be required every other weekend. Float requirements include other pediatric units. Interdisciplinary support will be available, including physical therapy and pharmacy. Nurses will engage in the management of central lines and other specialized equipment. Hard stop on specific skill requirements includes chest tube care and orthopedic care related to fractures.
