About the Position

Job Title: RN - Critical Care Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years ICU experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: EPIC experience required Description: Summary of the unit: This is a Level II Trauma Center with a total of 91 beds. Unit information: There are 14 beds in the unit. Patient types and common diagnoses include: General/Medical: sepsis, pneumonia, COVID, COPD, respiratory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, GI bleeds, DKA. Cardiac: CHF, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath (radial and femoral approach). Trauma: GSW, stabbings, falls. Surgical: GYN, GI (SBO), GU. Neuro: SDH, TBI, CVA, TIA, syncope. There are no cardiovascular surgeries. Patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:3. If greater than 2 patients, team nursing with experienced MedSurg RN is implemented. Long-term vented patients are managed by ICU RN, while MS RN will manage the patient. Support within the department includes: Charge RN typically takes patient assignments. 1-2 CNAs are available per shift. There is bedside and centralized telemetry monitoring. HUC is available during day shifts. A break buddy will be assigned. Respiratory Therapists are available 24/7. Hospitalists cover 24/7. Intensivists are available 24/7. OT/PT/ST is provided during the day. Required skills include: Ventilator and tracheostomy management. Tube and drain management. Chest tube and invasive line management (arterial line, central venous pressure). Cardiac rhythm interpretation (reading and measuring strips). Surgical recovery and medication titration (sedation, pressors, cardiac, pain, paralytics). Preferred skills include: Abdominal pressure monitoring. External ventricular drains. Continuous venovenous hemofiltration. Intra-aortic balloon pump. Travelers may float within scope of practice. If floating to MedSurg/Tele units or ED boarding with MS patients, the ratio will be 1:4. Scheduling includes: Weekend rotation every other week. Holiday expectations are 1 holiday per contract. Approval of requests for time off is permitted for up to 7 days. Shift times are 0700-1900 and 1900-0700. Schedule cycles are made in 6-week increments. Scrub colors must be solid and professional with no graphics, logos, or designs.
