Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS II

Barnes-Jewish St. Peter's Hospital has a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II position to work as a Generalist, including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Blood Bank. A great opportunity for a lab professional who is ASCP registered and enjoys working in a community-based hospital. 3 12-hour shifts (day) with a weekend/holiday rotation 7:00 am – 7:30 pm Sign‑on Bonus Eligible Overview Barnes‑Jewish St. Peters Hospital proudly serves the health care needs of families in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties. The 102‑bed community hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including the Siteman Cancer Center, the Breast Health and Women’s Center, the Cardiology Center, the Neurosurgery Center, and the Outpatient Surgery and Endoscopy Center. The hospital is an Accredited Chest Pain Center and holds a Level II stroke certification. The laboratory departments provide inpatient and outpatient services, and the medical office building houses specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, dermatology, surgery and pulmonology. The hospital also offers outpatient services such as physical therapy, a sleep lab, and cardio‑pulmonary rehabilitation. Role Purpose The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II performs specimen processing and routine/complex testing on blood and other specimens, requiring knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges. The position maintains appropriate documentation of all activities and demonstrates good clinical laboratory practice. Responsibilities Operate all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Perform all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results. Train new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area. Perform quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoot malfunctioning instruments as necessary. Assess technical and/or instrument problems, evaluate possible solutions, and choose an appropriate course of action to solve the problem. Report and maintain records of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn‑around times for routine testing and stats. Participate in performance‑improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems. Specific quality functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.
