Staff Accountant – CPA Firm

Position: Staff Accountant
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager / Firm Owner

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our CPA firm. This position will work with multiple business and individual clients and assist with tax preparation, accounting, financial reporting, bookkeeping review, and client communication.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable managing multiple deadlines, and interested in developing strong public accounting and tax experience.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare individual and business tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, and 1120.
• Prepare supporting tax workpapers and organize client documentation.
• Review client books and financial statements for accuracy.
• Prepare adjusting journal entries and year-end accounting adjustments.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, payroll, and balance sheet accounts.
• Review bookkeeping prepared by clients or bookkeeping staff and correct errors as needed.
• Maintain and update fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
• Assist with tax projections, estimated tax payments, extensions, and tax notices.
• Identify missing information, unusual transactions, or potential accounting and tax issues.
• Communicate with clients regarding documents, questions, and outstanding items.
• Manage multiple client assignments and deadlines simultaneously.
• Maintain organized and complete client files and workpapers.
• Assist senior accountants and management with additional accounting and tax projects as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
• Ability to read and understand financial statements.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work with multiple clients and competing deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3+ years of accounting or public accounting experience.
• Experience preparing individual and business tax returns.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online .
• Experience with Lacerte Tax or similar tax preparation software.
• Previous CPA firm experience.
• CPA candidate or interest in obtaining a CPA license.
