RN - PCU

Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse will work in a step down unit caring for patients with general medical and oncology needs. Oncology and chemotherapy experience is preferred but not required. Nurses will administer chemotherapy via IV and manage IV starts. The unit is equipped with Welch Allyn vital sign towers and sigma IV pumps. Documentation will be completed using EPIC. The nurse-to-patient ratio will be 1:4-6, with support staff available if ratios increase. Charge RNs are typically not included in patient assignments. Chemo admissions may decrease assignment ratios. Weekend work will be required every other weekend. Floating to other medical-surgical areas may occur to care for patients as needed. Daily census averages around 29 patients, and care will be provided to adults and geriatrics. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and more. Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, cancer, heart failure, and diabetes. Special procedures include chemotherapy administration. Specific equipment used includes BIPAP/CPAP machines.
