This position supports a seamless and restorative guest experience by ensuring that all building systems, equipment, and grounds operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with Westin brand standards.Through proactive maintenance, thoughtful planning, and collaborative leadership, the Chief Engineer helps create an environment where guests and associates alike feel comfortable, supported, and at ease.Core ResponsibilitiesProperty Operations & Preventive MaintenanceAssist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventive maintenance programs to protect resort assets and ensure uninterrupted operationsSupport management of the physical plant, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, water treatment, generators, fire pumps, and life safety systemsMonitor the quality and timeliness of work orders completed by associates and contractorsRecommend and coordinate repairs, renovations, equipment replacement, and facility improvementsAssist in managing departmental budgets, capital expenditures, and energy conservation initiativesMaintaining Property Standards & SafetyInspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety concernsMaintain accurate logs, records, and compliance documentation as requiredOperate generators and fire pumps as necessaryProvide emergency response services and support 24/7 operational readinessRepair equipment such as refrigeration and laundry systems as neededEnsure associates have the proper tools, supplies, equipment, and uniforms to perform their duties safely and effectivelyUphold safety, security, and asset protection standards throughout the propertyLeadership & CollaborationAssist in supervising the day-to-day operations of the Engineering department and related teamsEstablish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with associates and cross-functional departmentsCommunicate expectations clearly and consistently to support business objectivesRecognize performance and reinforce a culture of accountability, teamwork, and supportDelivering Exceptional ServiceLead by example in supporting guest satisfaction and associate engagementEmpower associates to provide responsive, solution-oriented serviceSet a positive example for guest relations and service recoveryAssociate Development & Human Resources SupportAssist with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding associates with the appropriate technical skillsSupport orientation and ongoing training programs, including safety procedures and brand standardsCommunicate performance expectations in alignment with job descriptionsParticipate in performance evaluations and provide feedback as neededEnsure disciplinary actions and documentation align with Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs), including participation in the Peer Review ProcessUtilize available training tools to support associate developmentSolicit associate feedback to promote engagement and continuous improvementAdditional ResponsibilitiesMaintain knowledge of building systems, codes, and industry best practicesSupport audits, inspections, and compliance initiativesAssist with additional engineering or operational duties as assigned to support guest and associate well-beingCandidate ProfileEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related professional area, including technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, and plumbingORAssociate degree or higher from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field, with at least 1 year of experience in engineering or maintenance and technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, and plumbingBackground Check NoticeIn accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and applicable state laws, a consumer report (background check) may be obtained as part of the employment process.
