Recovery Specialist, Brockton Behavioral Health Center, 40 Hours (Days/Evenings)

POSITION SUMMARY: Under supervision, the recovery specialist (RS) will provide peer recovery support services to patients on the Clinical Stabilization Services unit (CSS). The position will facilitate patient access to recovery-oriented SUD treatment, resources, and community recovery groups. The RS will bridge the segmented treatment system into a more holistic care model through support across multiple systems and frameworks of care. This role will maintain ongoing patient support regardless of relapse and will serve as a motivator, ally, role model, problem-solver, and advocate for patients. The RS should possess a thorough understanding of successful recovery, better tailor health messages, and provide links to community resources and treatment options. Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required. POSITION DETAILS Position: Recovery Specialist Department: Brockton Behavioral Health Center Schedule: 40 hrs (Days/Evenings) ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES Engage patients in a residential setting and explain the role and services of the recovery specialist. Assist patients, in collaboration with the behavioral health counselor, with the development and implementation of a recovery plan for adults struggling with SUD, MH, or Dual Diagnoses. Provide appropriate recovery information, referrals, and linkages to help individuals improve recovery and reduce risk behaviors, including healthcare, social work, financial assistance, child‑care, housing, food, entitlements, clothing, transportation, and community resources. Offer ongoing support and follow‑up to reinforce recovery and healthy lifestyle. Conduct peer recovery support groups on a weekly basis. Use non‑judgmental, caring language and motivational enhancement techniques to encourage patients to identify and prioritize personal needs. Document patient encounters, resource development efforts, and interventions in the electronic medical record with date, time, and signature. Conform to hospital standards of performance, conduct, patient rights, privacy, and BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards. Utilize hospital policies and standards to support decision making and mission alignment. Perform other duties as assigned or required. EDUCATION Associate’s degree (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience in community health) plus a minimum of 2 years in healthcare/substance use treatment field. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree or higher may have the experience requirement waived. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None required. EXPERIENCE At least 2 years working in a health care/substance use treatment setting; preference for experience with adolescents/young adults or individuals with substance use disorders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, e‑mail, the internet, and independent research of community resources. Understanding of recovery principles; lived experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Knowledge of community, social, and health resources, particularly substance use‑related resources. Empathic understanding of patients; skilled in performing multicultural needs assessments and developing concrete service plans. Expertise in establishing working relationships with patients, families, professionals, and the community, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary health care team. Computer competency, including data entry and access to electronic systems. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with organizational, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Multilingual skills beyond English preferred. Demonstrated flexibility with client priorities, evolving needs, and goals. Sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, gender, and sexual orientation diversity, and respect for beliefs and behaviors. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem‑solving ability. COMPENSATION RANGE $16.35–$22.84 per hour. This range reflects the minimum qualifications and may be adjusted based on education, experience, skills, certifications, business needs, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
