Job Description:Capstone is seeking a highly motivated Energy Analyst with specialized expertise in electricity, power generation, and utilities policy. This individual will develop differentiated investment ideas grounded in rigorous policy and regulatory analysis. The successful candidate will regularly engage with policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders, as well as institutional investors across the U.S. energy sector.As part of Capstone’s energy research team, you will analyze complex policy developments, evaluate their financial and strategic implications, and communicate your insights through clear, actionable investment theses. This is a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of policy, markets, and investing, helping clients anticipate key inflection points in the evolving U.S. energy landscape.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct in-depth policy and regulatory analysis across electricity, utilities, power generation, and grid infrastructure sectorsIdentify and articulate investment-relevant insights from legislative, regulatory, and market trendsBuild and maintain relationships with regulators, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and investorsDevelop and present equity research ideas and differentiated opinions supported by robust, data-driven analysis with colleagues across Capstone’s policy and research teams to provide comprehensive, cross-sector perspectivesProduce high-quality written reports, policy briefings, and client presentationQualifications and AttributesIdeal candidates will demonstrateExceptional analytical and creative thinking skillsThe ability to form and clearly express independent, well-supported opinionsStrong communication and interpersonal skills for client engagementExcellent writing and presentation abilitiesA proven track record of self-motivation and independent project executionA genuine passion for connecting policy and politics with investingEducation and Experience RequirementsBachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (e.g., in Public Policy, Economics, Finance, or Energy-related disciplinesMinimum 5 years of experience in equity research, consulting, investment banking, or policy analysis, ideally within the power and utilities or energy sector, banking, government, regulatory bodies, or policy analysisSignificant expertise in electricity markets, power generation (renewable and conventional), grid regulation, and energy transition policyDemonstrated experience engaging with senior policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholdersDeep familiarity with regional transmission organizations (RTOs/ISOs), particularly PJMPreferred BackgroundFamiliarity with regional transmission organizations (RTOs/ISOs) and utility regulatory frameworksBackground in equity research or policy-focused financial analysisBased in or open to relocation to Washington, D.C., New York, or HoustonCapstone offers a competitive benefits package, including health, vision, dental insurance, paid vacation, travel stipend and 401(k).
