Location: Albany/Springfield BranchSchedule:Monday: 9-5; Tuesday: 12-8; Wednesday: 8:30-4:30; Thursday: 9-5; Friday: 9-5 (alternating Saturdays in full-timer rotation) General Statement of DutiesPerforms varied library duties and assists patrons in using library services related to Adult ServicesProvides assistance to library users in securing information and using library resources to meet specific needs related to Adult Services Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssists patrons in using the computerized catalog to locate materials Develops knowledge of the branch collection as well as collections at other locations to efficiently and effectively provide accurate information to fill the patron's needsAssists patrons in use of public computers including word processing, internet searching, and use of online databasesMaintains order and safety in the libraryFollows established policies and procedures in performing all functionsAssists Head of Community Engagement in parish wide programs and initiativesFully conducts reference interview with patrons seeking information.Provides backup support at the branch for circulation and adult reference duties when short staffed.Creates an environment in the adult's area, which provides for enjoyable and convenient use of library resourcesMaintains current lists of shelf reading assignmentsEnsures that adult area and information desks are kept clean and orderly.Creates attractive and current displays and decorations for adult service area.Plan and conduct branch level adult services programming for parish adults aged 18 or older under the direction and supervision of the Head of Community Engagement and Branch Manager.Works with other adult coordinators to plan shared programming and events that may be held at multiple library locations.Provides outreach services to area institutions and other community groups as needed.Compiles program statistics monthly and enters them into the Adult Services File and formats for branch manager's monthly report.Any other duties needed in the course of performing services for the branch or patrons Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of adult books and related materialsAbility to work independently and within the direction of Branch Manager and Head of Community EngagementInitiative to determine and complete needed tasksAbility to meet and relate to public and staff members in a positive and constructive mannerKnowledge of computers and automated search methods. Ability to effectively use the various information access methods available in the library.Flexibility, initiative, creativity, energy, patience, and tact. Special Requirements: Valid Louisiana driver's license. Education and/or Work Experience RequirementsBachelor 's degree in any field OR Two (2) years' experience working in a public library with job duties and responsibilities requiring a level of independent work and thinking. Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
