Duties

• Provides direction, leadership and mentoring to develop and foster the leadership and management skills of DMs, DCs, and subordinate Service Line staff.
• Communicates a vision for the service line; translates organizational goals into actionable objectives and assignments. Motivates, mentors, and develops subordinate managers and staff; cultivates a high-performance, collaborative workforce.
• Communicates clearly and regularly with stakeholders, streamlining interactions and aligning IT activities with business goals.
• Reviews and approves new IT infrastructure intended to support the information needs of medical center and VHA management.
• Possess a high-level understanding of the Menu/Option Structure of VistA applications. Assists in standardizing the processes and procedures for support. Assists facilities on installs or updates to assigned package software.
• Plans, coordinates, develops, improves and implements efficient and economical evaluations of information systems and technical programs in support of new or existing applications software. Assists facilities on installs or updates to assigned package software.
• Coordinates troubleshooting complex software/hardware problems. Provides subject matter expertise services for assigned projects and independently provides advice and guidance and resolves problem matters.
• Uses oral and written communication skills and manages projects simultaneously are essential.
• Presents findings/recommendations for product/application improvements and on implementation plans to agency officials with both IT and non-IT backgrounds.
• Handles multiple concurrent projects with proven excellence in researching, organizing, writing, and presenting technical information. Reports status and long-term projections relating to IT systems and Service lines to the Pillar Director.
• Manages system Authority to Operate (ATO) processes and responds promptly to vulnerabilities and audit requests.

Physical Demands:

The work is sedentary. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and to attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. Some employees may carry light items, such as papers, books, or small parts, or drive a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort.

Working Conditions:

The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Some employees may occasionally be exposed to uncomfortable conditions in such places as research and production facilities.
