We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a mission-driven education organization in Washington, District of Columbia on a Contract basis. This interim opportunity will focus on strengthening core accounting operations, supporting the monthly close cycle, and preparing accurate financial information for audit-related activities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, works comfortably in a fast-paced environment, and has hands-on expertise with Sage Intacct.

Responsibilities:

• Perform detailed balance sheet account analysis and resolve discrepancies to maintain accurate financial records.

• Reconcile bank activity on a routine basis, investigate variances, and ensure cash balances are properly recorded.

• Assist with month-end close by preparing entries, reviewing account activity, and supporting timely completion of reporting deadlines.

• Prepare and organize audit support documentation to help facilitate internal and external review requests.

• Maintain general ledger accuracy through consistent review of transactions and appropriate accounting treatment.

• Create and post journal entries with supporting documentation in accordance with established accounting practices.

• Partner with finance team members to address outstanding reconciliation items and improve close efficiency.

• Proven experience working in a Senior Accountant or similar-level accounting role.

• Strong background in general ledger management, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.

• Demonstrated ability to complete bank reconciliations accurately and efficiently.

• Hands-on experience using Sage Intacct is required.

• Solid understanding of month-end close processes and audit preparation activities.

• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities within a Contract assignment.
