FINANCIAL ANALYST III

Subject to change. Description of Duties Reconciling daily revenue reports, payment reports, post‑pay reports. Reconciling various adjustment balances and pulling supporting backup for audit purposes. Preparing journal entries for daily billing, weekly, and month‑end closing. Analyzing and updating various monthly financial reports. Performing other duties as requested by Division and Department Head. Working Conditions The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less‑than‑optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and extensive use of a video display terminal. This is a Houston Public Works Department Position at the Tier III Level. Educational Requirements Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Experience Requirements Three (3) years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis, or a closely related area. Substitutions: Experience cannot be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement. A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the above experience requirement. Required License None. Preferred Qualifications SAP and Advanced MS Excel Revenue accounting and auditing Analytical financial operations research skills Knowledge of municipal budgeting, accounting, and reporting procedures Cost allocation and daily accounting processing Preference will be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for and are among the most qualified candidates for the position, in accordance with Executive Order 1‑6.
