About the role
The Youth Programming Coordinator supports the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of youth programming at Happy Valley Partners in Climbs soon-to-be opening rock climbing facility in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania. Collaborating closely with the Programs & Community Manager and core leadership team, this role helps ensure that youth programs are engaging, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the organizations mission and values.
This role is focused specifically on programming for climbers ages 14 and under, supporting the creation of meaningful experiences that help young climbers build confidence, develop skills, and foster a lifelong connection to climbing. Success in this role requires creativity, strong communication, attention to detail, and a passion for creating positive learning environments for young people.
This is a part-time, hourly position designed to support the execution and continued development of youth programming as the organization grows. As youth offerings expand and community needs evolve, there may be opportunities for this role to grow in scope, responsibility, hours, and compensation over time.
What youll do as the Youth Programming Coordinator
- Support Youth Program Development & Delivery
- Collaborate with the Programs & Community Manager to develop and refine youth programming for climbers ages 14 and under.
- Support the creation of age-appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional resources that consider different developmental stages, learning styles, and abilities.
- Teach youth classes, clinics, and programs while creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for participants.
- Provide input on program structure, progression pathways, and opportunities to improve the youth and instructor experience.
- Support Instructor Success & Program Quality
- Help prepare instructors to deliver consistent, engaging, and developmentally appropriate youth programming.
- Support instructor hiring, onboarding, curriculum alignment, and ongoing feedback alongside the Programs & Community Manager.
- Help ensure youth programs are delivered safely, consistently, and in alignment with organizational goals and values.
- Support Youth & Family Engagement
- Serve as a resource for parents and guardians by helping answer questions and provide clear communication around youth programs.
- Support the creation of parent-facing materials, program updates, and other communications.
- Help foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for youth participants and families.
- Actively and creatively contribute to the organizations marketing efforts by generating ideas, promoting programs and events, and helping showcase the gym's mission.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years experience working with children or youth in educational, recreational, coaching, childcare, or community-based settings.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with children, families, and teammates.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences for young people.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple program needs simultaneously.
- Current or ability to obtain, prior to working with minors, all required Pennsylvania clearances and certifications, including SafeSport and Pennsylvania Mandated Reporter Training.
Preferred
- Experience developing or delivering youth programming, curriculum, camps, classes, or instructional experiences.
- Background in childhood development, education, recreation, coaching, or related fields.
- Experience working in climbing gyms, fitness facilities, outdoor recreation, or youth sports.
- Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Levels 1-3 Certification
Additional Information
This is a part-time hourly position with an expected compensation range of $18-$26 per hour, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated skills.
This role is expected to begin as a part-time position supporting the initial growth of youth programming with opportunities to expand as programs develop. It includes:
- A flexible overall schedule aligned with the needs of a community-based climbing gym. Evening and weekend availability required for operational support, classes, competitions, and special events.

Happy Valley Partners in Climb, LLC is a Pennsylvania-registered Benefit LLC founded by a group of passionate community members committed to preserving and expanding access to climbing and community-focused recreation in the Centre County region.
We are preparing to open a 12,000 sq. ft. full-service indoor climbing facility in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, featuring approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of climbing wall space for bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing. Our goal is to create a welcoming gathering place where people of all ages and abilities can challenge themselves, build confidence, form lasting connections, and discover a lifelong passion for climbing.
