Job description
Summary/Objective
The Import and Export Control Specialist will serve as Safran Nacelles Services Americas LLC (SNSA)'s subject matter expert in U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and related import and export compliance. This role is responsible for accurately determining, assigning and maintaining USHTS classifications for all imported items and Schedule B numbers for all exported items, supported by robust audit trails and well-documented classification rationale. This position will lead communications with Customs Brokers, monitor and validate the seamless entry of goods into the United States, maintain comprehensive records in strict adherence to U.S. government standards and regulations, and perform and support internal import audit activities. This role is responsible for ensuring SNSA's compliance with import and export laws and regulations, such as the: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”), Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”), Foreign Trade Regulation (“FTR”), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”).
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
• Serve as SNSA's in-house expert for classification of imported and exported goods under the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (USHTS) and Schedule B, applying the General Rules of Interpretation, Section and Chapter Notes, Explanatory Notes, and applicable US Customs and Border Protection rulings.
• Develop, document, and maintain robust classification rationales and audit trails, ensuring each classification decision is fully supported by appropriate technical and regulatory references.
• Determine requirements of exporting and importing defense and dual-use articles and services under the CBP, ITAR, EAR, FTR, and OFAC.
• Work with various data sources, technical experts, engineers, product managers, sourcing managers and others to obtain and interpret technical data (including drawings, specification documents, schematics, and product manuals) necessary for accurate and defensible classifications.
• Ensure applicable authorizations are in place to properly export SNSA hardware or technical data.
• Assign and manage US export jurisdiction and classification.
• In coordination with Safran USA Compliance, respond to CBP requests and notices in a timely manner (CF-28's, CF-29's)
• Coordinate import/export processes and review trade/customs documents to ensure compliance with import / export laws and regulations, as well as Safran group procedures.
• Identify discrepancies, potential non-compliance, or process gaps and coordinate corrective actions (e.g., post-summary corrections and other remedial measures as directed by management).
• Perform and assist in internal import and export audit activities focused on, but not limited to, classification accuracy, documentation quality, and overall entry compliance. Conduct risk assessments and draft risk mapping/matrices, as required.

Candidate skills & requirements
• Manage daily export activities including interaction with freight forwarders.
• Conduct and vet third party screening of persons and entities and be able to identify red flags for any transactions.
• Perform all aspects of managing and communicating with SNSA's import broker(s), as the primary interface, to provide support for goods entry and timely data resolution, with SNSA being the Importer of Record.
• Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to optimize systems and structures to enhance control effectiveness and operational efficiency.
• Conduct departmental training in import/export compliance with various internal departments.
• Perform other related duties as required to support the organization.
Job Requirements
• Must be a U.S. person as defined as U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Education/Certifications/Experience
• Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of import/export customs compliance experience or 8 years of import/export customs compliance experience.
• Experience in the aerospace and defense industry in an import/customs compliance position, strongly preferred.
