Description

The Office of Fleet Management is seeking an automotive mechanic with entry level to moderate experience andtraining in the automotive mechanical repair field.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performs general automotive mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, basic diagnostics in a fleetmaintenance garage setting.
• For the benefit of on-the-job training aids higher level automotive mechanics.
• Observes and advises shop supervisor of the quality of repairs being performed.
• Performs basic computer diagnostics on powertrain engine management systems.
• Conducts mechanical repairs or replacement of major component assemblies such as engines, transmissions,transfer cases and axle assemblies.
• Performs accurate troubleshooting mechanical repair and service on automotive heating ventilation andair conditioning systems (HVAC).
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures including oil changes, fluid changes, vehicle inspections,tire rotations, tire mounting and balancing.
• Performs brake repairs and replacement.

Preferred Knowledge:

• General automotive mechanical repair experience with ASE certifications.
• Required to be a great problem solver.
• Good computer skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

This position is eligible for an approved Sign-on bonus of $5,000.00 in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(6).

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of automotive and, or, equipment repair technical experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
