CAD Design Engineer

What You’ll Do Design and build prototypes for the Space Kinetic core technology to achieve a flight demo within the next 2 years in a fast‑paced startup environment. Work with the manufacturing/engineering team to finalize CAD design, refine with detailed tolerancing, complete mechanism design, provide 2D CAD drawings, source components from vendors, and lead weight reduction efforts targeting a 30% decrease while increasing stiffness and rigidity. Revise mechanism designs to incorporate recent advancements, minimize vibration, and ensure manufacturability with attention to tolerances for plating processes. Adapt prototypes for future testing (air bearing, zero‑g flights, T‑Vac chamber testing) by making structural adjustments for various orientations and ensuring safety standards. Perform ongoing analysis of test data to inform design changes and move the prototype closer to flight readiness with each iteration. What It Takes Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with minimum 2 years of related experience. Proven experience in aerospace or mechanical engineering, skilled in mechanical design and space mechanisms. Proficient in SolidWorks, GD&T, Space Mechanism Design, Test Structure Design, Build for Manufacturing, Vibration, Rotary Component Design, and Space Structural Design. Experience executing experiments in a laboratory or R&D environment, collecting data, and implementing design modifications based on outcomes. Ability to work independently, learn quickly, possess strong analytical skills, creative thinking, detail orientation, calm under pressure, commitment to follow‑through, effective written communication. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (green card) and eligibility to maintain or obtain a Government Security Clearance for ITAR‑regulated work. $100,000 – $140,000 USD
