Smith & Company Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our growing team in Port St. Lucie, Florida. This is an in-office position and an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator looking to work with a respected heavy civil and utility contractor.
The ideal candidate will have strong estimating experience, the ability to analyze plans and specifications, and a solid understanding of construction means, methods, and costs. Experience in civil construction, underground utilities, site development, asphalt, or roadway projects is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Develop labor, equipment, and material pricing.
- Identify project risks and value engineering opportunities.
- Assist in preparing competitive bid proposals and schedules.
- Maintain and update historical cost databases and unit pricing.
- Coordinate with operations staff during project handoff after award.
- Support project managers and field teams with estimating-related information.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of construction estimating experience.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and production rates.
- Experience with HeavyBid, HCSS, Bluebeam, or similar estimating software preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
