Water/Wastewater Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Water/Wastewater Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient and compliant operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role will provide operational leadership across treatment processes, collection and distribution systems, maintenance activities, regulatory compliance and emergency response. The successful candidate will supervise daily operations, coordinate staffing and work schedules, and ensure that plant performance consistently meets applicable health, safety, environmental and quality standards.


Key responsibilities will include monitoring treatment processes and system performance, reviewing operational data, identifying issues and implementing corrective actions. You will oversee preventive and corrective maintenance, coordinate contractors and service providers, manage chemical usage and inventory, and support capital improvement and infrastructure renewal projects. The role will also be responsible for maintaining accurate operating records, preparing reports, supporting inspections and audits, and ensuring compliance with permits, legislation and standard operating procedures. You will promote a strong safety culture, conduct training and performance discussions, and respond effectively to operational incidents, equipment failures and after-hours emergencies.


Applicants should have significant experience in water and/or wastewater treatment operations, including demonstrated supervisory or management experience. A relevant technical qualification, operator certification or equivalent combination of education and practical experience is required; higher-level certification will be considered an asset. Strong knowledge of treatment processes, regulatory requirements, maintenance practices, workplace health and safety, and computerized maintenance or operating systems is essential. The ideal candidate will be a confident people leader with excellent communication, decision-making and organizational skills, able to work collaboratively with internal teams, regulators, contractors and the public. A valid driver's licence and the ability to participate in an on-call rotation may also be required.
