Economic Empowerment Program Advocate
Sakhi for South Asian Survivors (Sakhi) exists to represent the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean diaspora in a survivor-led movement for gender justice and to honor the collective and inherent power of all survivors of violence. Sakhi is committed to serving survivors through a combination of efforts, including—but not limited to—direct services, advocacy, and organizing technical assistance, and community outreach.
Sakhi serves survivors from the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean diaspora who trace their backgrounds to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Africa. Members of our community come from diverse backgrounds, including age range, religion, ethnic origin, economic and educational background, language spoken, and immigration status. We work to represent, inform, actively engage, and mobilize the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean community in an intersectional, intergenerational survivor-led movement for gender justice.
At Sakhi, we have a clear vision: to be the place where a diverse mix of talented people want to come, stay, and do their best work. Sakhi is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Bilingual/bicultural applicants, persons of color, people with disabilities and GLBTQI people are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Economic Empowerment Program Advocate to join our team on a full-time, one-year contract basis. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits consistent with our organization's full-time employment package. At the conclusion of the one-year term, there may be an opportunity to transition the role into a permanent position, contingent upon program capacity and funding.
The Advocate will report to the Senior Manager of the Economic Empowerment Program and will work collaboratively with the larger Sakhi team to ensure services to survivors are being delivered in a timely and effective manner.

- Accompany and/or provide advocacy for survivors to HRA offices, financial clinics, and tax clinics when required
- Assist with career readiness activities, including referrals to job training workshops, and assistance with resume and cover letters
- Assist survivors in their higher educational pursuits by researching academic programs, available scholarships, and grants as needed
- Refer and guide survivors through vocational training programs such as computer training, ESL classes, culinary schools, etc, as needed
- Coordinate with interns and volunteers for EE program activities
- Assist other Sakhi team members with cross-organizational efforts
Program Documentation and Development
- Maintain up-to-date records of all survivor-related work/activities through efficient data collection in Salesforce
- Compile and provide program data and reports as needed for projects and grants
- Attend weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly team and staff meetings and check-ins to foster understanding, communication, and growth as a team member
- Participate in interagency meetings, trainings, and workshops pertinent to economic empowerment services provided at Sakhi
- Pursue additional education (in-services, seminars, self-study programs) to advance skills and knowledge
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities through post-workshop surveys, feedback collection, and highlighting key activities to strengthen program design.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum of 2-5 years of case management experience working with survivors of gender-based violence

This is a full-time role (35 hours a week) that requires flexibility with the schedule. Sakhi's office hours are Monday - Friday, 10 am-6 pm, and the offices are closed the last week of August and the last week of December. Staff members have the flexibility to organize their 35 hours over a four-day work week. Some evenings and weekends will be required. Salary is $70k commensurate with experience. Sakhi offers health and dental benefits, unlimited PTO, paid parental leave, and all full-time team members have access to a mental health clinician.
