Job Title: Criminal Defense Paralegal – Low Caseload & Collaborative Team About Us We are a boutique criminal defense law firm in Mesa with a highly specialized focus on felony sex crime defense. Unlike high volume firms that prioritize churning through as many cases as possible, we intentionally maintain a low case volume. We focus deeply on the quality of our defense and truly getting to know our clients. We are a small, collaborative team. We handle complex felony cases and we maintain a focused office environment where everyone is trusted to manage their tasks without a boss hovering over their shoulder. Position Summary Are you an experienced paralegal who loves the law but hates the frantic, chaotic pace of high-volume criminal defense? Do you want the breathing room to actually do high-quality work? We are seeking a reliable, self-motivated Criminal Defense Paralegal with at least 4 years of experience . Because our case volume is low, we do not micromanage or issue constant daily reminders. We are looking for a professional who is naturally organized, keeps track of tasks smoothly, and enjoys being a vital part of a small team. How You Will Spend Your Time Core Responsibilities & Workstyle 70% Core Paralegal Work Drafting motions, filing documents, managing the attorney’s court calendar, and keeping file notations pristine. Because our volume is lower, you will actually have the time to ensure every document and calendar entry is immaculate and precise. You will work directly with the attorney. 25% Client Engagement & Phone Intake Managing our phone system and serving as one of the primary points of contact. You will use warmth, empathy, and professionalism to guide anxious callers, clearly conveying our firm's deep competence and experience to build absolute confidence before they speak with the lead attorney. 5% Fieldwork & Court Support Accompanying the attorney to court hearings or jail visits. Our paralegals get out of the office to see the direct impact of their work. Qualifications & Skills Experience: Minimum of 4 years as a criminal defense paralegal (Arizona experience required). Reliability: You are inherently self-motivated and organized. Keeping track of your tasks, deadlines, and the attorney's court calendar seamlessly. Bilingual - English/Spanish is always a plus. Software: Familiarity with Clio, Gmail, and Dropbox is highly preferred, along with experience navigating Maricopa County Superior Court filing systems . People Skills: You genuinely enjoy talking to people, building relationships, and managing sensitive client calls with empathy and absolute discretion.
