About the Position

Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of current acute care PCU hospital experience License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS & ACLS Must-Have: Candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role. Minimum 1 year of current acute care PCU hospital experience. BLS & ACLS certifications. Description: This is a travel position for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. The unit has 30 beds and employs approximately 65 staff members. Day shift staffing includes 1 Charge Nurse, 5-8 RNs, and 2-4 Patient Care Technicians. Night shift staffing includes 1 Charge Nurse, 5-8 nurses, and 2-3 Patient Care Technicians. Patient ratios are commonly 1:4, often stretching to 1:5. Typical equipment utilized includes telemetry, transport monitors, suction devices, feeding pumps, tracheostomy care, BiPAP, CPAP, heated high flow, chest tubes, Foley catheters, pacer wires, IV pumps, and SCD pumps. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech. Candidates with the following additional skills will be favored: Chest tube management, including removal. Pacer wire management, including removal. 12-lead EKG proficiency. Oxygen management, including BiPAP and heated high-flow therapy. Administering drips for heparin, diltiazem, amiodarone, Lasix, dobutamine, milrinone, and ketamine. Typical procedures performed in the unit include: Post-cath care, including right and left heart catheterizations, TAVRs, ablations, Watchman procedures, and pacemaker implantations. Managing TR band and neurovascular checks. Post thoracic surgery care, which includes VATs/RATs, resections, lobectomies, and chest tube management. Pre and post care for open-heart surgical patients, including CABGs, MVRs, AVRs, and aortic dissection repairs. Vascular surgery post-operative care. The ideal candidate is a great team player.
