The Oncology Thematic Research Center at BMS is a key research and early development engine, responsible for the discovery and development of novel oncology therapeutics for patients. Centered at our state-of-the-art research sites in Cambridge and Seattle, scientists focus on novel targets and pathways for tumors that are refractory to current therapies. With a deep understanding of the causal human biology, we are able to leverage our multiple modality platforms to best match the modality to the mechanism and desired outcome. We are a fully integrated drug discovery through translational and early clinical development organization which exploits state-of-the-art in vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo models of Cancer biology and Immuno-oncology to identify and validate targets. We partner closely with colleagues in Translational Medicine, Informatics and Predictive Sciences and Early Clinical Development to generate biomarker and patient enrichment hypotheses to enable efficient decision making in early clinical trials. Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced individual with oncology discovery and/or translational expertise to join the Translational Research team within the Oncology Thematic Research Center at Bristol Myers Squibb in Cambridge, MA. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative scientist that can work across a highly matrixed organization to advance programs from candidate optimization through IND enabling activities and ultimately to Clinical Proof of Concept studies. This individual will be dedicated to designing scientific studies and delivering data that impact clinical decision-making for our programs. The candidate will explore patient stratification, drug combination, and/or biomarker concepts and execute bench studies that delivering data for Oncology TRC programs. Position Responsibilities: In the role as a Senior Scientist within Oncology Translational Research, the ideal candidate will: Develop biomarker, pharmacodynamic and target engagement assays. Use current and new techniques to address drug mechanism of action and sensitivity/resistance studies. Utilize flow cytometry and multiplexed assays for human blood biomarker development Utilize quantitative assays such as ELISA, MSD, Luminex, and other biomarker relevant assay platforms Utilize various in vitro oncology models/assays in order to explore drug combination studies and indication selection. Apply functional genomics tools (i.e. CRISPR, RNAi, ORF, etc.) in order to characterize oncogenic targets and drug mechanistic studies. Interact with project teams and contract laboratories for design and oversight of molecular, cellular and/or in vivo studies. Be responsible for co-authoring non-clinical pharmacology study reports and scientific publications, as needed. Be expected to understand departmental goals and development processes. Execute experiments independently, troubleshoot as needed, interpret and discuss data. Utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Communicate via email, meetings and reports. Experience = Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree Or Master’s Degree Or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. with post-doctoral experience and/or 1-3 years of industry experience, or BA or MA with at least 5-7 years of industry experience in drug discovery or translational research in the pharma or biotech setting. Must be highly proficient in flow cytometry and the preclinical development of human blood-based biomarker assays Experience performing biomarker-focused laboratory work, including handling cell cultures and performing analysis of protein and DNA/RNA samples using a variety of methodologies including but not limited to MSD/ELISA, Luminex, RNAi, CRISPR, qPCR and primary cell isolation, culture and functional assays is highly desired. Experienced in the design and development of cell-based assays using various technology platforms, especially generation and characterization of patient-derived material including organoid or tumoroid cultures and ex vivo manipulation and propagation is highly valued but not required Ability to conduct experimental work independently, with accurate, detailed record-keeping.
