About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Telemetry Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: BLS required Certifications: ACLS preferred, National certification in Medical-Surgical nursing preferred but not required Must-Have: - Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital - IV insertion and care, central line management - Wound care and post-operative monitoring - Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation - Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams - Discharge planning and patient education Description: The RN will provide care for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including heart failure, A-Fib, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, and sepsis. Patients may present with acute or chronic disease states and may require post-operative care following surgeries and cardiac procedures. Co-morbidities common to the med-surg population include diabetes, hypertension, infections, and electrolyte imbalances. The nurse will work within a 30-bed unit with an average census of 30 patients. Patient ratios will be maintained at RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, with CNA support of 2-3 per shift. Required skills include management of trach care, chest tubes, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate heart rate but not blood pressure. The nurse will demonstrate strong clinical assessment abilities in a busy, team-oriented environment. The role involves coordination with CNAs for assistance with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating patients, hourly rounding, and transporting patients as needed. Nursing responsibilities also include monitoring and interpreting cardiac telemetry along with managing and maintaining Foley catheters. The nurse will utilize various technologies and equipment, including EMR, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and cardiac telemetry monitoring. Floating may occur to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in house. The nurse is expected to work 5-6 weekend shifts out of a 12-shift schedule and will also work one shift on each major holiday. RTO requests will require manager approval. The unit culture is described as busy, where teamwork is essential in providing quality patient care.
