Special Education Teacher

Northeast Woodland Chartered Public School is seeking a collaborative, student-centered Special Education Teacher / Student Intervention Support professional to join our Waldorf-inspired outdoor learning community. This role supports students academically, socially, and behaviorally while ensuring compliance with special education law and best practices.

Position Overview: The Special Education Teacher partners with classroom teachers, families, administrators, and districts to ensure students receive appropriate supports in the Least Restrictive Environment. This position includes direct service delivery, IEP case management, student intervention planning, and active participation in the school’s Care Streams support model.

This role requires daily outdoor engagement in all weather conditions and active supervision of students in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Instruction

• Provide special education services for students (PreK–8) per IEPs and district agreements
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in collaboration with teachers, families, and LEA
• Deliver Tier II interventions and support Tier I strategies within classrooms
• Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet diverse learning needs
• Support accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs
• Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress
• Conduct formal observations and evaluations as needed

Case Management & Compliance

• Manage referral processes and special education documentation
• Schedule and coordinate IEP meetings with families, staff, and LEA
• Maintain compliance with NH special education law and NHSEIS requirements
• Communicate with service providers (speech, OT, etc.) to ensure services are delivered
• Ensure timely parent communication and documentation

Collaboration & Community Engagement

• Partner with classroom teachers on intervention planning and data collection
• Participate in Care Streams student support team
• Act as liaison between families and LEA
• Maintain clear, professional communication with students, families, and colleagues
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development

Classroom & School Responsibilities

• Establish positive, relationship-based behavior supports
• Supervise students indoors and outdoors (in all weather conditions)
• Maintain accurate student records
• Proctor NH SAS and NWEA assessments
• Contribute to curriculum planning aligned with Waldorf principles and NH standards

Qualifications

• NH Teacher Certification (Special Education certification preferred but not required)
• Knowledge of special education law and best practices
• Understanding of the Science of Reading and Math Common Core Standards
• Familiarity with IEP development and the Least Restrictive Environment
• Commitment to Waldorf education (Waldorf training or willingness to pursue training with school support)
• Strong understanding of child development and relationship-based behavior approaches
• Experience working with children in instructional settings
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work outdoors daily in varied weather and terrain
• Proficiency (or willingness to learn) Google Suite, ALMA, ParentSquare, Canva, NHSEIS, NWEA, NH SAS
