Medical Laboratory Technician Job Details

• Position: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Lab Generalist
• Location: Irvine, Kentucky 40336
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,470–$1,580
• Contract: 13 weeks, beginning October 5, 2026
• Schedule: 5 shifts per week; 8-hour day shifts
• Shift Details: Alternating days with a weekend rotation currently occurring every third week; day shift start time is approximately 6:00 a.m.
• Average Hours: 40 hours per week
• Work Setting: On-site hospital laboratory
• Systems and Equipment: EPIC, SoftLab, and Roche laboratory instrumentation
• Additional Information: Local candidates are welcome. A dysrhythmia or EKG examination is not required.

Medical Laboratory Technician Requirements

• Medical Laboratory Technician certification, or eligibility for certification through a nationally recognized agency; ASCP certification is preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting required; 2 years of technical laboratory experience preferred.
• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or an approved equivalent education pathway.
• Eligible education pathways may include at least 60 semester hours with required chemistry and biology coursework plus completion of an accredited medical laboratory technician program, or completion of a qualifying U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past 10 years.
• Ability to perform routine, moderate, and highly complex laboratory testing according to applicable standards and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work alternating days and participate in the scheduled weekend rotation.

Medical Laboratory Technician Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids to support diagnosis and treatment.
• Confirm, evaluate, and report test results to provide clinicians with accurate information for patient care decisions.
• Perform, document, and evaluate quality control activities to maintain reliable laboratory results.
• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment, including Roche systems.
• Complete required functions within the Laboratory Information System and Hospital Information System, including EPIC and SoftLab.
• Assist with training new employees and students on laboratory equipment, testing procedures, and department workflows.
• Support inventory control and help maintain adequate laboratory supplies.
• Participate in continuing education and uphold applicable safety, compliance, and quality standards.
