Travel Psych Nurse (RN) in Prospect, KY

Deliver high-quality psychiatric nursing care in a specialized behavioral health unit serving adolescents ages 14-18. This contract position requires an experienced RN skilled in deescalation, compassionate psychiatric support, and the ability to respond efficiently to crisis situations within a multidisciplinary team environment.


Schedule/Hours:

• Rotating schedule with every third weekend required
• 12-hour shifts
• Floating may be required throughout the facility and across various age groups

Key Qualifications:

• Active RN license and current BLS certification required
• CPI certification provided onsite; must be physically able to conduct holds and safely move patients through required positions
• Minimum 6 months recent inpatient psychiatric RN experience
• Must have successfully completed at least one prior travel assignment
• Strong deescalation and crisis management skills
• Comfortable administering IM injections, verbal deescalation, and, when safety indicates, seclusion or mechanical restraint
• Ability to manage multiple escalated patients or simultaneous events
• Fluent with Cerner EMR and Omnicell med dispensing
• Flexibility to float between units and adapt to changing assignments as needed

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide direct care to adolescent psychiatric patients with diagnoses including SI/suicidal attempts, aggressive/ODD/psychosis behaviors, and high-frequency peer altercations
• Recognize and proactively address patient agitation or escalation
• Safely implement physical holds and participate in code response activities
• Collaborate closely with therapists, case managers, mental health techs, and security staff
• Document accurately in EMR and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
• Support positive patient outcomes while upholding strict safety standards
