We're a group of employees who care about not only what we do but how we do it.About the Role: As a Custodian at one of our locations, you will help shape our customers' entire shopping experience by giving them a positive first and last impression. You will be focused on performing the full range of cleaning tasks in assigned areas in order to provide an appealing and safe environment for the Co-op's internal and external customers.Who You Are: You understand that first impressions are important and that a well-kept, clean, and sanitary environment is vital to that impression. You're passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.What You'll Do: You will be responsible for making sure the Co-op is clean, neat, in order, free from clutter, and safe for everyone. You will work collaboratively with other staff and do the following:Perform general, routine, custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap suppliesPerform routine maintenance to custodial equipment and suppliesEmpty trash receptacles, dispose of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bag trash for proper disposalEnsure that recycling is appropriate separated from trash and put in the appropriate place for disposalFollow Co-op procedures, guidelines, and methods for cleaning, and utilize approved chemicals, supplies, tools and equipmentReport needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work ordersEnsure a safe and clean environment for all internal and external customersComply with Health Department Regulations and follow safe food handling practicesGreet and offer assistance to customersTreat people fairly, consistently and with respectAbide by all Co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documentsParticipate in required training and meetingsPerform all other duties as assigned by a supervisorWhat You Bring: This role requires the following experience, skills and abilities:Knowledge of cleaning methods, safety hazards, and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutionsDetail-oriented and thoroughA positive attitude and collaborative spiritOutstanding customer service skillsAbility to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers and vendorsEffective communication skills in EnglishFlexible schedule, available daytime, evening and weekend hoursWillingness to learn and take on new responsibilitiesRegular, predictable attendanceAbility to read, comprehend, and interpret instructions and documentsDemonstrated accuracy and thoroughnessAbility to work independently.Ability to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to handle multiple demandsOpen to change and variety with little advance noticeAbility to handle stressful situations in a calm, effective mannerAbility to prioritize tasks, multi-task, balance friendliness with efficiency, and maintain focusNice-to-Haves: It's a bonus if you have one or more of the following:Previous experience working in a retail, grocery, or co-operative organizationWhat You'll Get: Willy Street Co-op is one of Madison's best-kept secrets in terms of a great place to work.
