Job Title: Operator Assistant

Job Description

The Operator Assistant supports daily yard and shop operations by safely directing rail cars, loading and unloading ethanol and propane products, and assisting with inventory tracking. This role works closely with a small operations team to ensure chemicals are handled and delivered safely, while performing physically demanding tasks in an outdoor environment and occasionally interacting with customers and drivers.

Responsibilities

• Direct rail cars via radio to ensure safe and accurate positioning for loading and unloading.
• Load and unload ethanol, propane, and other products using appropriate equipment and safe handling procedures.
• Perform heavy lifting of products and materials, including items weighing 70 pounds or more, while following proper lifting techniques.
• Work closely with the operations manager and a small team to support safe and efficient chemical handling and delivery.
• Track inventory and product movements using Microsoft Office and basic data entry procedures.
• Operate forklifts and other machinery as needed to move materials in the yard and shop.
• Use hand tools and perform basic assembly and mechanical tasks to support operations and equipment maintenance.
• Follow all safety guidelines when working at heights, around rail cars, and with chemical products.
• Assist with general labor and construction-related tasks as required in the yard and shop.
• Provide professional, customer-facing support when trucks and drivers arrive with product, ensuring smooth check-in and loading/unloading processes.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area in both the shop and yard.
• Work effectively in all weather conditions and temperature extremes while performing outdoor duties.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with equipment and tools.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting, including handling products weighing 70 pounds or more.
• Comfort working outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions.
• Ability to work safely at heights and around rail cars and chemical products.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office for inventory tracking and data entry.
• Experience or comfort operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
• Ability to use hand tools and perform basic assembly tasks.
• Reliability and willingness to work as part of a small, hands-on operations team.
• Strong attention to safety procedures and guidelines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with general labor or construction tasks in an industrial or yard environment.
• Experience in machine operating or similar operational roles.
• Customer service skills for interacting with truck drivers and other visitors.
• Ability to learn and follow detailed operational processes and safety protocols.
• Willingness to work voluntary overtime on weekends when needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a mixed environment that includes working inside a shop and outside in a yard. You spend a significant portion of time outdoors, working in all temperatures and weather conditions, and you may be required to work at heights and around rail cars and chemical products. The work involves physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, operating forklifts and other equipment, and using hand tools. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with voluntary overtime available on weekends. The setting is industrial and safety-focused, with a small team atmosphere and regular interaction with truck drivers and other visitors.

This is a Permanent position based out of Kaukauna, WI.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Kaukauna,WI.
